Impaired Professionals
When professionals need help overcoming addiction, they turn to the Florida Recovery Center because it is the hub for national experts in research, evidence and treatment. Physicians, nurses, attorneys, pharmacists, corporate executives and others looking for a rehab for professionals in Florida, turn to us for strong support and effective treatment of their unique issues.
Through daily patient interaction with University of Florida physicians, the impaired professionals treatment track at our executive rehab centers may include comprehensive evaluation, detoxification, rehabilitation, inpatient or outpatient treatment and aftercare. Our partial hospitalization option offers housing for those who live outside the Gainesville area or prefer not to commute.
Professional support groups meet at least once a week to address shame, guilt and recovery issues associated with addiction. Patients often continue with their groups following discharge, building a foundation for long-term support in the professionals recovery community.
Personalized Support: Physician-Led Recovery Group
Our impaired professionals support group adds a unique element to our program. Healthcare and business professionals currently in treatment meet weekly with one of our recovering physicians on staff for discussions on issues specific to their fields.
Each professional has the opportunity to address transition issues, including:

- Disruptive behaviors
- Co-dependency in the workplace (yours and theirs)
- Boundaries
- Balance
- Continued Care
At the Florida Recovery Center, our unique blend of ongoing, effective therapies in a private, comfortable facility, along with integration in the large local professional recovery community, provides an ideal environment for recovery.
Our team works closely with professional referral programs, peer assistance and licensing boards to formulate discharge plans, continued care and monitoring. As the point of contact between all parties, the Florida Recovery Center helps make this process more efficient and effective.
Who We Are
Scott Teitelbaum M.D., F.A.A.P., F.A.S.A.M., M.R.O. is an associate professor and vice chair for the University of Florida Department of Psychiatry and chief of the division of addiction medicine. He is also the medical director for the Florida Recovery Center. Dr. Teitelbaum is the 2010 recipient of the Conway Hunter award and a consultant to the White House and the New York Yankees. He and the FRC team have evaluated and successfully treated hundreds of physicians from across the nation.
Martha E. Brown, M.D. is an associate professor with the University of Florida Department of Psychiatry. She is also the associate medical director for the Florida Physician Health Program (PRN). Dr. Brown is a national expert on impaired and disruptive physicians and an active member of the Federation of State Physician Health Programs (FSPHP). Her clinical research and practice occurs through the Florida Recovery Center, evaluations of impaired professionals, consultations with Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Football League (NFL) and continuing medical education (CME) courses for prescribers and disruptive physicians.
John Harden, M.S.W., M.P.H., L.C.S.W. is the executive director for the Florida Recovery Center, and he is also on faculty with the University of Florida Department of Psychiatry in the division of addiction medicine. With 25 years of clinical experience in addiction and related disorders, Mr. Harden remains active in clinical practice utilizing a systems approach to affect change and recovery. He has evaluated and successfully treated more than 1,000 physicians and other health-care professionals, earning his reputation as a top expert in the field.
