Most patients requiring detox treatment from alcohol and drugs need the safety of services delivered in a medically supervised, expert-led unit, 24-hours a day. Unlike other detox centers in Florida, our program handles the most complex detoxification, including patients with chronic pain who use multiple drugs.

Services at Shands Vista Hospital are available and accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. University of Florida faculty and Shands staff are available to provide assessments to determine what services are most appropriate to meet the needs of the individual. For our Orlando patients, we have fostered a relationship with the medical treatment teams at South Seminole Hospital in Longwood, Florida.

Services are specialized for the individual patient within appropriate time frames and at appropriate levels. Intake counselors will arrange for either admission to the hospital or for outpatient services. And, if Shands Vista, the Florida Recovery Center or South Seminole Hospital can’t meet the patient’s needs, counselors will assist the individual with finding an appropriate facility for their specific needs.

Eating Disorders

The Eating Disorder Recovery Center includes eight inpatient beds at Shands Vista where patients who have eating disorders can receive intensive treatment and therapy in a medically supervised, safe and comforting environment.

While patients at EDRC’s inpatient unit, patients may receive the following services:

• Individual, group & family therapy
