Admission
Patients who require hospitalization for detoxification or treatment for drug and alcohol problems may be admitted to Shands Vista substance abuse unit at 4101 N.W. 89th Boulevard in Gainesville, Florida. Counselors will work with you to determine what types of services are best for the individual patient.
If you plan to be admitted for detoxification upon arrival, go to the front desk and let the receptionist know that you have an appointment with the Intake Department. You will speak with an intake counselor who will do an initial interview and complete the necessary paperwork for your admission. You will be admitted to Shands Vista “west”, which is an inpatient unit that includes patients who are currently in treatment for some type of substance use disorder.
Although there are private rooms on our unit, admission to those rooms is dependent upon availability. Our goal is your safety and the safety of all of our patients and staff, therefore the rules during your stay will be the same as for the program patients.
Financial counselors are also available to evaluate your insurance benefits and assist with making financial arrangements.
